Here We Go Again: Disney Plans To Make Live-Action ‘Pinocchio’ Movie!

pin

Disney has developed a bad case of Live-Action Fever, and a little bit of Tylenol isn’t going to help things. According to Deadline, the studio has provided writer Peter Hedges the chance to bring a live-action Pinocchio to the big-screen.

This news comes just a week after Disney announced plans to make live-action versions of Mulan and Winnie the Pooh. And even though we are getting a little tired of hearing about all these live-action remakes, we are excited about this Pinocchio remake.

Why? Because Peter Hedges is a brilliant writer. What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, About a Boy, Dan in Real Life, Pieces of April. This man knows how to write a great movie, which is probably why Disney is trusting him with bringing Pinocchio back to life.

And we know he’s going to have a little room to play around with some ideas. Sources claim this new film will be “loosely based” on the original Pinocchio.

So, when should we expect to see this film in theaters? Not for a long time. This is the seventh live-action remake Disney has announced. We know the live-action remake of The Jungle Book will hit theaters April 15, 2016.

But after that? No one knows. We will keep you posted.

A Movie Adaptation Of ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ Will Be Coming Soon, Get The Details Inside!

The extremely popular 2014 video game series created by Scott Cawthon is getting a movie adaptation, and this really shouldn’t surprise anyone. The terrifying game, which features malfunctioning animatronic animal characters, has been a huge success online.

Just go on YouTube and you’ll see what we’re talking about. Heat Vision was the first to report the news, claiming the film will be produced by Roy Lee (The LEGO Movie) and Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg of KatzSmith Productions.

The project is currently out to writers, which means this film still has a long road to travel. But everyone is looking forward to going down the road together.

Grahame-Smith said…

“We’re looking forward to working with Scott to make an insane, terrifying and weirdly adorable movie.”

And even though video games adapted into movies are usually terrible, the creator of this game believes this one will be different.

“The story really lends itself to being a movie and it taps into a largely unexplored niche of horror that a lot of people will be able to relate to.”

I am still not convinced, but I do think this has the chance to be successful. The game is already creepy enough on a small computer screen. Can you imagine watching it inside a theater?

Kevin Smith Reveals ‘Mallrats 2’ Will Come Before ‘Clerks 3’

mal

As you hardcore fans will know, Kevin Smith was originally planning to work on Clerks 3 this summer, and then start on Mallrats 2 in 2016.

But plans have changed, thanks to his desire to blow up a freakin’ mall. Filming will begin later this year on Mallrats 2, which means Clerks 3 will be pushed back another year. He broke the news during his latest Hollywood Babble-On podcast.

During the podcast, he explains that they just found the perfect mall to film in. A “big old empty mall” Smith reveals.

And some disturbing things will be happening to this mall during the film…

“So if you had a mall and the mall was eventually going away, that would let you like blow the f—ing mall up, which happens in the third act. So we found a place that we can go to.”

He then explained the original plan, which included filming Clerks 3 this summer, and Mallrats either at the end of 2015 or the beginning of 2016.

“But now, based on a f—ing mall that we all dig that will be going away, the priority has become Mallrats. So the next f—ing movie I’m making is Mallrats 2. No word on Batfleck yet…but it would be fun to see if we could get him.”

As you can see above, Kevin Smith is trying to convince Ben Affleck to come back. We know he’s still busy with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but hopefully he can clear his schedule for a few days to make an appearance in the sequel.

So, who is coming back for sure? Jason Lee, Jeremy London, Shannen Doherty, Jason Mewes, Ethan Suplee, and many more. Smith claims he’s just waiting on two people to agree. We know one of those people is Mr. Affleck.

We’ll keep you updated. By the way, I am really excited he decided to film this one first.

Jurassic World Of Drama: Writers Guild Battles Universal Behind The Scenes

worl

Dinosaurs and drama. Jurassic World has not experienced an easy ride to theaters. After important details of the plot were leaked from set, it appeared that everything had settled back down.

But now there is more drama going on behind the scenes, and this time it’s Universal vs. Writers Guild of America.

According to sources connected with Deadline, the studio wants director Colin Trevorrow and his writing partner Derek Connolly to share a written by screen credit. The late Michael Crichton would receive a “based on the novel by” credit.

Seems like a good deal, right? Not according to a three-member arbitration panel. Last week, they ruled that Connolly and Trevorrow should share their writing credits with Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa. They are the husband and wife team behind an earlier draft of the script.

Jaffa and Silver were asked to write the Jurassic Park sequel back in 2012. They completed a first draft, but things just weren’t working out. That’s when Trevorrow and Connolly entered the picture.

Even though Connolly and Trevorrow claim their draft wasn’t based on the previous draft, Silver and Jaffa filed a protest with the guild. And as we now know, the arbiters agreed with them, even removing the “written by” credit completely. They believe all the writers should share a “screenplay by” credit.

Connolly and Trevorrow have appealed one last time. If they are denied again, then the game is over. All four writers will share a screenplay by credit, and Jaffa and Silver will also get a “story by” credit added on.

Why is this a big deal? Well, because if the original credits had stayed in place, Trevorrow and Connolly would have received 50% of the future residuals. If this new ruling stands, they will only take home around 20%.

We’ll keep you updated. By the way, Jurassic World hits theaters June 12, 2015.

‘Furious 7’ Breaks Box Office Records With Insane Opening Weekend!

fas

The experts predicted this film would bring in a lot of money during its opening weekend, but no one was predicting over $140 million.

$115 million was the number everyone agreed on before the release, and Universal’s Furious 7 raced past that number with ease. After scoring big with an 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the seventh film in the franchise took home $143.6 million during its opening weekend.

And as you can imagine, there were several records shattered during the process. It is now the biggest April opening in history, and the first April film to go over the $100 million mark. It’s also the most successful opening (so far) this year, and the largest opening of all the films in the Fast & Furious franchise.

But wait, there’s more! It’s the highest debut since the second Hunger Games film was released back in 2013.

Universal Pictures’ president of domestic distribution told Deadline the following…

“Originally, we planned to release the picture last July, but that wasn’t going to happen, so we thought of April because opening on Good Friday has proven historically to be a very good thing to do.”

Would you like more numbers? Of course you would! Furious 7 earned $240.4 million overseas, which brings its worldwide total up to $384 million.

I don’t think ‘success’ is the right word for this film…

Movie Review: While We’re Young (2015) – A Charming Woody Allen-esque Indie Gem

Celebrities On The Set of "While We Were Young" In New York City - September 24, 2013

While We’re Young is a new indie movie with limited release, possibly aimed at aging hipsters. Despite the fact that its release was limited to a small amount of theaters, this one could wind up being a sleeper hit.

Ben Stiller and Naomi Watts play a 40-something couple who is more than content with their decision to not have children. In fact, they mention it so much that you start to think they’re protesting too much. Conflict comes in when they meet a spirited 20 something couple (Adam Driver and Amanda Seyfried). There’s some generational culture clash and much self-deprecation on Ben Stiller’s part. While the premise isn’t exactly exciting, I found myself incredibly intrigued by this charming indie gem.

The culture clash is powerful. The younger couple is part of the entitlement generation that kind of just expects everything to work out. The older couple is part of Generation X, which is marked with an almost constant sense of impending doom. Ben Stiller’s character especially, is a man on the edge. He’s tried his entire life to earn a name for himself as a respected documentary maker, but to date, everyone has failed to recognize his genius. Being in his mid forties, he’s at an age where he’s starting to wonder if his dreams will ever come true, of if he’s doomed to mediocrity. As a 30 something, I know the feeling.

The movie has an almost Woody Allen feel, in the way it makes fun of the New York Hipster subculture. The older couple especially, seems to be clinging to the culture in an effort to cling to their youth. The characters are brilliant, but completely immature, and their interactions make the movie work.

03APR2015 - While we're young movie sitll 2

It’s a movie that really focuses on that blurry line of middle age, when it’s too late to do some things, and feels too late to change direction. Because there’s nothing we can do about it, we spend the majority of our time trying to convince ourselves that our choices were right. It’s the perfect recipe for a midlife crisis and people who might fall into this middle of the road age bracket will be able to easily understand.

When you get about two thirds of the way in, the movie drops its breezy atmosphere and starts to get very heavy. It feels like one person wrote the first half of the movie, while a manic depressive wrote the rest, because out of nowhere the movie gets really dark.

Regardless of that, this is still a good movie. People who remember Woody Allen movies will be reminded of them, while the hipster vibe will resonate with younger crowds, at least the ones that are ok with laughing at themselves. The dialog is well done, the conflicts, at least for the first two thirds, are believable, and the characters are well rounded. Chances are you know someone who is very much like one of the characters in this movie. They did a good job of writing them funny, without going awkward.

It’s a good movie for adults who are looking for something breezy and indie and is easily worth the watch, despite a somewhat heavy ending.

It’s True, Disney Is Making Live-Action ‘Winnie The Pooh’ Film!

winn

Meghan Trainor is all about that bass, and Disney is all about them live-action remakes. Was that a stretch? Yeah, but it’s Friday and I haven’t even had my morning bowl of cereal yet.

Just days after Disney announced they were developing a live-action Mulan adaptation, the studio surprised fans again with this Winnie The Pooh announcement.

Deadline was first to report the news. Disney has hired Alex Ross Perry (Listen Up Philip) to write the film, which will reportedly follow Christopher Robin as an adult returning to Pooh’s crib in the Hundred Acre Wood.

And some of you might be thinking, “What? They want Alex Ross Perry to write the script?” We understand your concern. Asking a serious indie director to create a new Winnie The Pooh seems a bit odd, but it’s a move Disney has made before.

David Lowery, the director of 2013’s indie thriller Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, was also hired by Disney to create a remake of Pete’s Dragon. Production has already started on the project, and it’s currently set for an August 12, 2016 release.

It’ll be interesting to see the final product for both films. Obviously, these films will be financially successful, that’s why they are making them.

But will they become instant classics like the latest remake of Cinderella?

Mark Wahlberg Will Produce Boston Marathon Bombing Movie For CBS Films

It’s only been two years, but it looks like development on a film chronicling the events of the 2013 bombings has already started.

The Wrap reports that Boston native Mark Wahlberg will produce the movie for CBS Films. Some people believe he will also star in the film as city police commissioner Ed Davis, but he would have to pull off one heck of a transformation to make that happen.

Matt Charman (Bridge of Spies) is currently writing the screenplay. As of right now, the film doesn’t have any actors or directors attached to it.

The working title is Patriots’ Day, and CBS Films president Terry Press had this to say about the story…

“There is nothing more compelling than a real story populated by real heroes. The team that we have assembled for this project is determined to give audiences a very personal look at what occurred during the days when the eyes of the world were on the city of Boston and how a group of contemporary patriots faced this crisis.”

And as we were doing more research on this film, we discovered 20th Century Fox already purchased a script titled, Boston Strong. Daniel Espinosa will be directing the movie, which will reportedly begin filming this year.

This means we have at least two films being made about a tragic event that happened just two years ago. How do you feel about this? Are these projects being started a little too soon?

‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Gets New Trailer And It’s Probably The Craziest Thing We Have Ever Seen!

mad

Why do people go to the movie theater? To pay $15 for a bag of popcorn? To sit next to someone who smells like meatballs and heated mayonnaise? No, that’s not it.

We go to the movies because we want to be entertained, right? We want to forget about real life for two hours and just escape. And that’s probably why some people get so angry when they pay to see a boring movie.

But we don’t think you’ll need to worry about this happening with Mad Max: Fury Road. The trailers for this movie have been insane. I mean, some of the moments inside the trailers make Furious 7 look like a simple car chase between a 90-year-old Grandmother and a small-town police force.

This fourth film in the Mad Max franchise could be the best film in the franchise. After all, this one actually appears to have a plot, which is a nice change.

The film was directed by George Miller, and it features an impressive cast. Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Zoe Kravitz, and Nicholas Hoult.

Check out the trailer below. Mad Max: Fury Road hits theaters May 15.

The ‘Vacation’ Reboot Will Be Coming To A Theater Near You Sooner Than You Think!

vac

Excited for the reboot of the classic comedy franchise? We have some good news for you. Warner Bros. is moving the release date from October to the prime summer date of July 31.

This announcement proves the studio has high hopes for the film, which stars Ed Helms, Leslie Mann, Chris Hemsworth, Christina Applegate, and Charlie Day. Original cast members Beverly D’Angelo and Chevy Chase will be making brief appearances in the movie.

Ed Helms has the lead role as Rusty Griswold, the now grown son of Clark and Ellen Griswold. Christina Applegate will be playing his wife, and Leslie Mann co-stars as Rusty’s sister, Audrey Griswold.

vaccc

This film has been described as both a reboot and a sequel to National Lampoon’s Vacation. The IMDb page for the reboot reveals Rusty will be taking his own family on vacation.

“Rusty Griswold takes his own family on a road trip to “Walley World” in order to spice things up with his wife and reconnect with his sons.”

John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein will share credits for directing and writing the movie.

Like we mentioned above, this new release date proves everyone involved with this project is confident this thing will be a massive hit.
