We are in the middle of August right now, which means the summer blockbusters are fading out to make room for the Oscar contenders. And it looks like our favorite entertainment company, A24, will have a lot of contenders this year.
One of those contenders will be ‘The Florida Project,’ starring Willem Dafoe. This film was directed by Sean Baker, who you might remember from a little flick called Tangerine, which was shot entirely on an iPhone.
The Florida Project stars newcomer Brooklynn Prince as a precocious 6-year-old girl who lives with her mother in a community of extended-stay motel guests near Disney World.
Slate provides more details:
“The Florida Project stars Bria Vinaite, who Baker found through her Instagram fame, as Brooklynn’s mother, who becomes increasingly desperate to support herself and her daughter. Willem Dafoe, the only big name in the cast, plays Bobby, the strict-but-kind manager of the Magic Castle motel. The film received glowing reviews at Cannes, with critics singling out Prince’s performance and Vulture’s Emily Yoshida calling the movie as a whole “a near-perfect film.”
The movie is expected to have a limited release starting October 6, 2017. If it happens to be in a theater near you, make sure you check it out.
