Netflix Lands Rights To Upcoming Action-Thriller Film ‘Fast & Loose’ Starring Will Smith

We all know Netflix is not afraid to spend money. They have dropped plenty of cash the past few years, and they show no signs of slowing down.

Their latest acquisition? A big action-thriller flick titled ‘Fast & Loose‘ which will star Will Smith. Filmmaker David Leitch is set to direct. He’s previously directed Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, and John Wick.

Deadline first reported in February that the package was hitting the market with every major player involved in the bidding war. Netflix would eventually win rights and has taken its time in negotiating the deals.

The film follows a man who wakes up in Tijuana with no memories. As he pieces together his past, he learns he’s been living two lives, one as a crime kingpin and the other as an undercover CIA agent.

Sounds like a solid role for Smith. It’s easy to see how much fun he could have with this character.

It’ll be interesting to see the release strategy for this film. Will Smith still has a name that’s big enough to attract box office heat, so you’d think they’d want to give it a theatrical release.

But at the same time, they’ve spent lots of $$$ on big action flicks before and were firm in their streaming only release. They clearly make enough money without box office sales.

No word on when filming is set to begin.
