One of the biggest deals to come out of the Sundance Film Festival was Mindy Kaling’s comedy/drama, Late Night. The movie, which Kaling wrote/starred in, locked a huge $13 million distribution deal with Amazon.
Now we are learning that Amazon Studios is going to release the film inside theaters June 7, 2019.
The film looks at a ‘diversity hire’ in a late-night talk show writer’s room at a time when the entertainment business is being pressured to become more inclusive. Kaling plays a writer who is hired as the show’s only female joke-smith and Thompson portrays a talk show host whose zingers have grown stale.
The movie performed pretty well with the audience at Sundance. The critics enjoyed it for the most part, although, there are a few rotten reviews in the bunch.
In addition to Kaling and Emma Thompson, this movie will co-star John Lithgow, Hugh Dancy, John Early and Amy Ryan.
