It’s been a long time since we saw the unforgettable Austin Powers on the big screen. The last film in the comedy franchise came out way back in 2002. That’s 16 years ago.
Of course fans have been wondering if a fourth movie would ever be released, and throughout the years, it has never looked likely. No one seemed to be in a rush to make another film.
It looks like that might be changing soon though. While walking the red carpet at the premiere of Bohemian Rhapsody, Mike Myers talked to reporters and revealed they are working on a script.
“It’s looking good, it’s just tough, you know, it takes a long time to write the script, you want it to be fantastic. I have three kids under the age of seven now, you know [director] Jay [Roach] is just back to back making movies. But we’ve met and, I don’t know, it’s looking good, we’ll see. I’d love to do it, it’s so much fun doing it.”
Sadly, one of the more memorable characters from the franchise won’t be returning. Verne Troyer, the actor who played Mini-Me, died earlier this year.
Shortly after his death, Myers released the statement you see below…
“Verne was the consummate professional and a beacon of positivity for those of us who had the honor of working with him. It is a sad day, but I hope he’s in a better place. He will be greatly missed.”
This fourth film certainly won’t be the same without him.
