It’s been ‘a minute’ since we’ve seen Michael Cera starring in a blockbuster. For the past year or two, he’s been mostly doing voice work and plays in New York. We’re sure it’s been a nice break for him, considering he has never been a fan of being in the spotlight, but we have been missing him here at MVST.
Thankfully, it looks like he’ll be coming back to the big screen soon, and he’s bringing Will Ferrell and Catherine Keener with him. They’re all in talks to star in Captain Dad, which has been described as a dark twist on the family vacation comedy.
The film will be written and directed by Golden Globe-nominated Sebastian Silva, best known for the Sundance winning dramedy The Maid.
Here is Deadline’s description of Captain Dad…
“Rich Peelman (Ferrell) gives his wife Linda (Keener) the gift of a lifetime for her birthday: a trip through the Caribbean on a sailboat with all six of their kids and their partners. Stubborn, competitive and overly confident in his sailing abilities that are clearly out of sync with reality, Rich is determined that the vacation be run on his terms. But things do not go according to plan. His ‘father knows best’ attitude clashes with the rest of the Peelman clan. And by the end, even the most patient of the bunch are ready to throw Captain Dad overboard, bringing new meaning to the idea of the dysfunctional family.”
Nothing groundbreaking, but it sounds like it will be the perfect fit for both Ferrell and Cera. It’ll be exciting to see them work together.
