It’s been sixteen years since the third installment in the ‘Matrix‘ franchise hit theaters. The third film, Matrix Revolutions, opened to mostly negative reviews but still made over $400 million at the box office.
In total, the franchise has made over $1.6 billion at the global box office, so you can see why the studio has been trying to bring it back.
And it looks like they’re finally getting their wish. Lana Wachowski will return to write/direct this fourth installment. The report also states that Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will reprise their roles.
Warner Bros. Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich told reporters the following…
We could not be more excited to be re-entering ‘The Matrix’ with Lana. Lana is a true visionary — a singular and original creative filmmaker — and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in ‘The Matrix’ universe.
No word on a release date, but we do know production plans to begin in early 2020, which means it’ll likely be either late 2020 or sometime in 2021 before the film is released.
We’ll keep you posted.[mashshare]
