The annual Gotham Awards were held in downtown Manhattan on Monday night, and it was Noah Baumbach’s ‘Marriage Story‘ film coming out as the big winner.
The movie, which is about a particularly heartbreaking divorce between an actress and a director, stars Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson. It has been receiving rave reviews from critics, with a solid 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
On Monday night, the film won best feature, best actor (Driver) and best screenplay.
During one of his many trips to the podium, Baumbach thanked Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos (who was in attendance) for financing his movie and saving the Paris Theatre, the historic one-screen venue in midtown Manhattan that will now host Netflix releases and parties
This is good news for the movie as we move into awards season. Hollywood loves movies about, well, Hollywood, so Marriage Story could do very well at the Oscars.
By the way, it was also a big night for Awkwafina who won best actress for her leading role in The Farewell.
