Late last month we told you the search for a new director to take over the Fast & Furious franchise had started. Vin Diesel promised his fans that the announcement would be coming soon, and it looks like he was telling the truth.
According to multiple reports, the search is down to just three directors: F. Gary Gray, Adam Wingard and Louis Leterrier. However, it looks like Gray is the clear front-runner to direct Furious 8. And if his name sounds familiar to you, it’s probably because he directed one of the biggest movies of the year, Straight Outta Compton.
Why do we believe he’s the front-runner? Well, even if you don’t believe the multiple sources who claim he is, you might want to take a look at Vin Diesel’s new Facebook cover photo.
The photo you see below shows Mr. Diesel sitting next to Gray…
It’s pretty obvious who Diesel is rooting for, and it does seem like the best decision for the franchise. The director has worked with both Diesel and Dwayne Johnson (who will return for Furious 8) in the past.
But still, the final decision hasn’t been made yet. If they can’t complete a deal with Gray, sources say Leterrier could swoop in and take the job. He would be another solid choice, having worked on The Transporter, The Incredible Hulk and Now You See Me.
We’ll continue to keep you posted.
