Well, we have some good news for all you Clerkheads out there. It’s being reported this week that Kevin Smith’s upcoming ‘Clerks III‘ has been picked up by Lionsgate. They’ve acquired worldwide rights to the film, which is set to begin production in just a few weeks.
Filming will take place in New Jersey in August. Smith wrote the script and will direct the project. And yes, all major cast members are set to reprise their roles, including Jay Mewes and Rosario Dawson.
In Clerks III, following a massive heart attack, Randal enlists Dante, Elias, Jay and Silent Bob to make a movie immortalizing his life at the convenience store that started it all.
As most of you probably know, Smith himself experienced a massive heart attack back in 2018 and nearly died, so obviously this story is a personal one for him.
Smith describes the story as the closest one yet to his own biography, with Dante and Randal figuring out how turn the people and stories in their lives into characters. They’ll even be forced to film, as Smith did, in black and white, and Smith intends for the movie-within-a-movie scenes in ‘Clerks 3’ to also be in black and white.
The entire film will be shot in New Jersey, which is something Smith is super proud of. It’s the first time he’s been able to do that since 1993.
No word on a release date, but with Lionsgate behind it, you’d think it would have a fairly widespread theatrical release.
