If it feels like Leonardo DiCaprio only works with established, insanely talented directors, it’s because he does. He just finished working with Quentin Tarantino. Before that he worked with Alejandro G. Iñárritu, and before Alejandro he worked with Martin Scorsese.
Now he’s in talks to star in Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Nightmare Alley‘ remake. The way Variety talks, it’s basically a done deal at this point. It’s just all legal stuff they have to work out now.
This film will be more based on the William Lindsay Gresham novel of the same name. The 1947 movie starred Tyrone Power as an ambitious young con-man who teams up with a female psychiatrist who is even more corrupt than he is. At first, they enjoy success fleecing people with their mentalist act, but then she turns the tables on him, out-manipulating the manipulator.
The plan is to start shooting this movie in the fall, which means it’ll likely be released in 2020. Del Toro’s last film, The Shape of Water, won the Best Picture award at the 2018 Academy Awards.
We’ll keep you posted as he adds more stars to support Leo’s leading role.[mashshare]
