Some extremely sad news to report today. The director behind The Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia, and Rachel Getting Married has passed away at just 73-years-old.
According to the reports, Jonathan Demme died of complications from esophageal cancer Wednesday morning in New York. His publicist confirmed the news in a statement released to the media:
“Sadly, I can confirm that Jonathan passed away early this morning in his Manhattan apartment, surrounded by his wife, Joanne Howard, and three children.”
He was one of the most talented filmmakers in Hollywood, and he had a career that most aspiring directors/writers will never have.
Demme worked on projects he was passionate about, and he never let anyone put him in a box. The best example of this is the fact that he’s best known for the horror-thriller Silence of the Lambs, but most of his work was more lighthearted and quirky.
He also had a passion for music, and his movies were typically filled with some great tunes. He directed documentaries/videos for talented artists like Justin Timberlake, Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young.
