What started out as just a web short for Pepsi Max has turned into a feature-length comedy film starring Kyrie Irving as Uncle Drew. After a successful five-year digital episodic series, Lionsgate picked up the series and turned it into whatever this is.
In addition to Irving, this movie also stars Shaq, Reggie Miller, Nate Robinson and Nick Kroll. ComingSoon provides us with more information about this project…
“After draining his life savings to enter a team in the Rucker Classic streetball tournament in Harlem, Dax (Lil Rel Howery) is dealt a series of unfortunate setbacks, including losing his team to his longtime rival (Nick Kroll). Desperate to win the tournament and the cash prize, Dax stumbles upon the man, the myth, the legend Uncle Drew (NBC All-Star Kyrie Irving) and convinces him to return to the court one more time. The two men embark on a road trip to round up Drew’s old basketball squad (O’Neal, Webber, Miller, Robinson, and Leslie) and prove that a group of septuagenarians can still win the big one.”
Uncle Drew will hit theaters on June 29, 2018, and it should be interesting to watch. I’m really curious to see how this does at the box office.
