I’ll be honest. When I first watched the trailer for Girls Trip, I didn’t think much about it. I didn’t watch it and think, “Oh wow. That’s going to be terrible,” but I also didn’t think it would be anything special.

I was wrong, though. It is something special. It’s probably the funniest movie of 2017 so far, and it’s making good money at the box office, especially for an R-rated comedy.

It currently sits at an 89% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Out of 72 reviews, just 8 have been rotten. It made over $30 million during its opening weekend, which makes it the most successful start for an R-rated comedy in two years. It’s also the best opening weekend for any live-action comedy this year.

And we have to remember it made this impressive $30 million total going up against Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk, which made a little over $50 million.

So why is this movie doing so well? It’s funny. It really is that simple. It is a funny movie, and one of the funniest parts of the movie? Tiffany Haddish. She steals every scene she’s in, and this will likely make her a huge star in Hollywood. Similar to Zach Galifianakis’ rise following The Hangover franchise.

Still not convinced you should watch this movie? Read some of the comments below from the critics…

Peter Travers from Rolling Stone magazine:

“In all the ways ‘Rough Night’ went wrong, ‘Girl Trip’ goes hilariously right. Regina Hall, Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah and-yowza!- Tiffany Haddish let laughs bubble out of character instead of blunt-force farce. It makes all the difference.”

Richard Roeper from Chicago SunTimes writes:

“Pinkett Smith and Queen Latifah are as reliable as ever onscreen. And Regina Hall gives one of her best performances as Ryan, who keeps on telling everyone you can “have it all” even as her own marriage tells a different story.”

Sandy Cohen from Associated Press praised Haddish:

“I can’t wait to see this film again (and again), and to watch Haddish in whatever she does next.”

You must watch this film. Support good comedy!
