Joaquin Phoenix is probably exhausted right now after a wildly successful awards season run. His performance in ‘Joker‘ earned him the Best Actor award at the Oscars.
How will he follow up such an incredible performance? Well, he’s working with A24.
He apparently just wrapped production on an indie flick with 20th Century Women filmmaker, Mike Mills. In the untitled drama, Phoenix reportedly plays an artist left to take care of his precocious young nephew in a cross-country road trip.
In addition to Phoenix, the movie stars Gaby Hoffman, Woody Norman and Kenneth Kynt Bryan.
Producers are Chelsea Barnard (Booksmart), Lila Yacoub (Eighth Grade) and Andrea Longacre-White (20th Century Women). Robbie Ryan (The Favourite) is DoP. We hear a script is due to be sent out to buyers this week.
According to some reports, Peter Jackson’s WETA Digital is creating special/visual effects for the movie, which is a bit odd. It sounds like a pretty straightforward indie flick. Why the need for visual effects? Perhaps there is more to this story.
They’re hoping to release the film by the end of the year.
