Things are looking good for Jennifer Lopez’s ‘Hustlers‘ film after a $2.5 million Thursday night preview. That number beats out other R-rated titles like Girls Trip ($1.7 million) and Bad Moms ($2 million).
Hustlers should benefit this opening weekend from extremely positive reviews. It has a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and most critics believe Lopez could get an Oscar nomination for her performance.
Even with the hype, Hustlers probably won’t take the top spot at the box office. It’s expected to make around $25 million, which should put it behind the second weekend haul for It: Chapter Two.
But still, a $25 million opening would be great. The production budget was believed to be around $20 million.
So even if it can’t beat the scary clown, the studio will still be celebrating a very successful opening.
The Goldfinch also opens this weekend, but it’s been getting slammed by critics. It might be one of the most disappointing movies of the year, considering people were so excited for it. After all, it has a pretty impressive cast.
Tracking suggests it’ll only make around $10 million this weekend, which is not great considering it has a $40 million budget.
