Save the date, folks. Movie theaters across the United States plan to screen Michael Radford’s adaption of George Orwell’s ‘1984‘ on April 4 in protest of Donald Trump.
The special event was organized by the United States of Cinema. Almost 90 theaters will be participating in 79 cities in 34 states.
In a statement released to the media, the United States of Cinema explained why they decided to organize the special screenings…
“Orwell’s portrait of a government that manufactures their own facts, demands total obedience and demonizes foreign enemies has never been timelier. The endeavor encourages theaters to take a stand for our most basic values: freedom of speech, respect for our fellow human beings, and the simple truth that there are no such things as ‘alternative facts.'”
The theaters that are participating will donate a portion of the proceeds to local charities. They also have the option to use the money to underwrite future educational and community-related programming.
