Next year, ‘Fast & Furious 9‘ will hit theaters, but before then, a spinoff titled ‘Hobbs & Shaw‘ will be released.
The film stars Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Idris Elba and the lovely Helen Mirren. The movie, which is over two hours long (whhhhy?) will be released on August 2, 2019.
How much money will it make? Well, according to the early tracking, Hobbs & Shaw could bring in around $65 million during its opening weekend. If it manages to bring in over $60 million, that would make for a solid opening.
Although, it would be on the low end for a Fast & Furious film. Furious 8 made $98 million in its opening, Furious 7 made $147 million and Furious 6 made $97 million.
It’s hard to know what would qualify as a great opening for Hobbs & Shaw considering it’s the first spinoff of the franchise. You could look at the budget, which is reportedly over $200 million. If that’s the case, they need AT LEAST $60 million during their opening weekend.
The good news is that the Fast & Furious franchise has global appeal, so they’re not living/dying by the domestic total.
