If you’re in New York or Los Angeles, chances are you’ve heard people talking about the Tony award-winning musical, Dear Evan Hansen.
The story follows Hansen, a high schooler with social anxiety who unintentionally gets caught up in a lie after the family of a student who committed suicide mistakes one of Hansen’s letters for their son’s suicide note.
Universal Pictures has acquired the film rights to the story and filmmaker Stephen Chbosky is set to direct. According to insiders, Ben Platt, who played the original role of Hansen, is in early talks to star in this feature film.
“The musical was nominated for nine Tonys and scored five, including best musical, best actor, best featured actress (Rachel Bay Jones), and best score. It is currently on a nationwide tour that includes a stop in Los Angeles.”
No doubt this will be a hit. Heck, if they do it right, it could be nominated for some awards. We’ll keep you posted as production moves forward.[mashshare]
