Guardians of the Galaxy is well on its way to becoming 2014’s highest grossing movie in North America. The Marvel Studios box office smash passed the $400 million mark this weekend with a worldwide total of $418.7 million.
The film has earned just over $220 million in North America, and just under $200 million internationally. The movie is still open in a few markets, including Japan and China, so the international total will only climb higher.
The film, directed by James Gunn, will likely pass Transformers: Age of Extinction in North America; however, the Michael Bay flick is still the highest grossing movie with over $1 billion worldwide.
Guardians of the Galaxy has already outgrossed some of Marvel’s biggest hits, including The Incredible Hulk and Captain America: The First Avenger. It will soon pass Thor’s $449.3 million total.
