It was announced earlier this month that the 2021 Academy Awards would be pushed back two months. They were originally scheduled to air in February 2021, but thanks to the pandemic, the date was pushed back to April 25.
Now a little over a week later, we are learning that the Golden Globes will also be pushed back. The awards ceremony typically takes place in early January.
But thanks to the virus, it’ll be held on February 28, 2021. That date is actually significant because that was the original date for the Academy Awards.
The new date of Feb. 28 for the Globes was the original date for the 2021 Oscars, which was set in 2017. The new date means that the results of the Globes could influence Oscar nominations voting, as the process doesn’t begin until a week later on March 5.
So yeah, everything is being pushed back by two months. This is mostly to allow more movies in, as most films have seen their release dates pushed back.
It’s certainly going to be one of the more interesting awards seasons in recent memory.
They may even get a boost in the ratings.
