Parasite‘ was of course the big winner at the 2020 Oscars, and rightfully so. It was the best film of the year.

But there is another story coming out of the Oscars that deserves just as much attention.

And that’s the story of Matthew A. Cherry. The former NFL wide receiver sent out a tweet back in 2016 of a little concept image for a short film idea.

And now, nearly four years later, his dreams are coming true. His short film ‘Hair Love‘ (which he wrote and directed) took home the award for Best Animated Short. The beautiful story follows a man who must do his daughter’s hair for the first time.

The short film got a lot of love, and was even attached to the Angry Birds Movie 2 and Jumanji: The Next Level.

Cherry has been trying to make it in film since 2007. He’s suffered a lot of setbacks, but he never gave up, and now look at him. HE JUST WON A FREAKING OSCAR!

Huge congratulations to Cherry and the entire ‘Hair Love’ team. Check out his acceptance speech below…
