After surprising everyone with its success with critics and at the box office, it was clear John Wick was a prime candidate for a sequel. It earned close to $80 million at the worldwide box office, and that’s a huge number because the film was made for just $20 million.
Just the money alone is enough to get a sequel made, but it also helps when both the audience and the critics enjoy the movie. It scored an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Not long after the first film was released, we learned there was going to be a sequel, and they moved pretty freaking fast with this sequel. The first announcement was made back in May of 2015, and now in October of 2016 we are getting our first sequel for John Wick 2.
Both Keanu Reeves and director Chad Stahelski have returned for the sequel, which will reportedly take place just four days after the events of the original film.
During the John Wick: Chapter 2 panel, Reeves told the crowd, “I really liked putting this suit back on, and getting to do what John Wick gets to do. The action, the passion. And the guy who is fighting to be free.”
You can check out the official synopsis and trailer below. It’ll hit theaters Feb. 10, 2017.
“Keanu Reeves returns in the sequel to the 2014 hit as legendary hitman John Wick who is forced to back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins’ guild.
