‘The First Purge’ Teaser Airs Right After The State of the Union Address, And It’s Pretty Chilling

I have no idea if this fourth installment in the ‘Purge‘ franchise will be any good, but I do know the marketing team is doing a great job of promoting it.

The First Purge is set to be released on July 4 (of course) and it’s going to “explore just how the fictional New Founding Fathers got everyone in this country to agree to an annual 12-hour killing spree.”

The teaser you see below aired right after the State of the Union address on Tuesday (Jan. 30) and it probably confused a lot of people at first. It’s not until the very end of the teaser that the ‘Purge’ is announced. The first 25 seconds tricks you into thinking that it’s some generic patriotic ad from a car company or something.

Entertainment Weekly provides us with more details on the film…

“The First Purge is directed by Gerard McMurray and written by James DeMonaco, who both wrote and directed the previous three films in the franchise, beginning with 2013’s The Purge. This new film stars Y’lan Noel, Lex Scott Davis, Joivan Wade, Luna Lauren Velez, and Marisa Tomei.”
