Does the name Bart Layton mean anything to you? Maybe. He was the director behind the gripping documentary ‘The Imposter,’ which was released back in 2012. The doc was extremely successful, and thanks to streaming sites like Netflix, people are still discovering it six years after its release.
Layton is ready to amaze us once again, but this time he’s making his narrative feature debut. ‘American Animals‘ is a crime thriller that has been receiving a lot of love from those who watched it at Sundance. The Orchard and MoviePass purchased distribution rights to the film for a cool $3 million.
IndieWire tells us a little more about the true story behind the movie…
“‘American Animals’ is based on the true story of four teenagers in Lexington, Kentucky who tried to strike it rich by pulling of a $10 million heist. Keoghan and ‘American Horror Story’ favorite Peters play the two friends at the center of the heist. The plan was to break into a local college’s special collections library and steal valuable books, including Audubon’s prized ‘Birds of America,’ but the mission didn’t go according to plan.”
As mentioned above, Evan Peters and Barry Keoghan star in the movie, which is enough to get us excited. You can check out the trailer below. It’s scheduled to hit theaters June 1, 2018.
