A little over a week ago, the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘ franchise was rocked when Disney announced they would be firing director James Gunn. He will no longer direct the third film in the extremely successful Marvel franchise.
Disney made the decision after old tweets Gunn posted 10 years ago resurfaced. In the tweets he joked about rape, AIDS, 9/11, and several other controversial topics.
The country seems to be split on this firing. Some people believe it’s the right thing to do, while others believe it’s an extreme reaction to some distasteful jokes on Twitter.
And it’s clear to see where the entire cast of Guardians of the Galaxy stands. They joined together and wrote the statement you below in support of their fallen leader.
“We fully support James Gunn. We were all shocked by his abrupt firing last week and have intentionally waited these ten days to respond in order to think, pray, listen, and discuss. In that time, we’ve been encouraged by the outpouring of support from fans and members of the media who wish to see James reinstated as director of Volume 3 as well as discouraged by those so easily duped into believing the many outlandish conspiracy theories surrounding him.”

As you can see, all of their signatures are located at the bottom of the statement.
The ball is in Disney’s court right now. I would hate to be them right now because they can’t win either way. If they don’t rehire him, they’ll piss off a bunch of people, and if they do take him back, they’ll piss off a bunch of people.
We will keep you posted. They’ll need to make their final decision fast because production on this third film is scheduled to begin in early 2019.[mashshare]
