After the massive success of the Transformers spinoff ‘Bumblebee‘, Travis Knight has signed a deal with Warner Bros. to direct the film adaptation of the ’70s tv show, The Six Million Dollar Man.
This adaptation will be titled ‘The Six Billion Dollar Man‘ and will star Mark Wahlberg.
The Six Million Dollar Man is about a former astronaut, Colonel Steve Austin, portrayed by Lee Majors. Majors’ character, employed as a secret agent, had superhuman strength due to bionic implants. The series ran for five seasons on ABC between 1973 and 1978, and was based on Martin Caidin’s novel ‘Cyborg.’
Warner Bros. bought the rights to the film in late 2017 from the Weinstein Company after the studio started to crumble following the sexual assault scandal.
As mentioned above, Knight is riding high after directing Bumblebee, which was not only loved by the general audience, but also by critics. It scored a surprising 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and made over $460 million worldwide against a budget of $135 million.
No word on a potential release date for Six Billion Dollar Man, but we will keep you posted.[mashshare]
