David Ayer-Directed Film ‘The Tax Collector’ Starring Shia LaBeouf Lands Theatrical Release

Good news for the cast & crew of the crime drama ‘The Tax Collector’. The movie has been acquired for U.S. theatrical distribution by the AMC Networks division RLJE Films.

The movie, which was written/directed by David Ayer, stars Shia LaBeouf, Bobby Soto, George Lopez and Cinthya Carmona.

In the drama, David (Soto) and Creeper (Shia LaBeouf), are ‘tax collectors’ for the crime lord Wizard, collecting his cut from the profits of local gangs’ illicit dealings.

But when Wizard’s old rival returns to Los Angeles from Mexico, the business is upended, and David finds himself desperate to protect what matters more to him than anything else: his family.

RLJE Films plans to release this flick in August 2020, which is just a few months away. Looks like they’re hoping most theaters across the country will be open by then.

As we’ve previously said, the July/August timeframe will be incredibly interesting. We’re starting to see a few smaller films set release dates in July and August, which could be a very smart move.

The only big release still on the schedule in July/August is Christopher Nolan’sTenet’ film. Beyond that, the bigger studio releases aren’t set to return until at least September.

So if theaters are open in July/August, these smaller films (which would have been swallowed by bigger releases) will have an opportunity to shine.

But if theaters aren’t open by then, well, they’re kinda screwed.
