It’s official now. After months of rumors, we can now confirm that Ryan Coogler will direct Marvel’s upcoming Black Panther movie. His name had been in the mix since rumors started flying last year, along with directors F. Gary Gray and Ava DuVernay.
Obviously, trying to decide between those talented directors was probably similar to my adventures in the cereal aisle of the grocery store. “I want that one…oh and that one…wait I want that one too! We’re gonna need a bigger cart!”
But it looks like Marvel was able to make a decision. In the February issue of Empire magazine, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that Coogler would be directing the film.
“This one is important. Not only do you get an unbelievable lead character, but you also get all of Wakanda which is a whole new setting and culture to explore.”
The whole project is important considering it will be the first Marvel Studios production featuring a black superhero as its lead. And with Coogler attached to the project now, that has to make Marvel fans feel more comfortable. He is one of the hottest directors in Hollywood after the success of Creed and Fruitvale Station. It’s also important to remember he’s only 29-years-old. He has a looong career ahead of him.
‘Black Panther’ is scheduled to hit theaters in 2018.[mashshare]
