I didn’t think it was possible, but ‘Crazy Rich Asians‘ had an even more impressive second weekend at the box office. As you all know, it grabbed the number one spot last week with an impressive $26.5 million total.
In its second weekend at the box office, the film made around $25 million and once again had the number one spot. It dropped just 6% from its first week, which is absolutely insane. I mean if you remember, Wonder Woman was considered a huge success after only dropping 45% in its second weekend. Of course, Wonder Woman was working with much bigger numbers, but still…a 6% drop is impressive.
In total, Crazy Rich Asians has earned a little over $76 million domestically, which is more than double its budget of $30 million.
“That haul will only continue to swell as the film starts its slow rollout in overseas markets: It took in more than $7 million in international box office this weekend — including $1.8 million in Singapore, where much of the film is set, making it the largest opening for a romantic comedy ever in that market.”
As we reported last week, the studio behind the film is already developing a sequel, so be prepared for a Crazy Rich Asians 2 in 2020.
