If you’ve been to the movies lately, there is a solid chance you’ve seen a trailer for Crawl. If you haven’t, you can watch the trailer above.
It’s pretty insane, and not necessarily in a good way. It looks like it’s almost in ‘Sharknado‘ territory. A film you might laugh AT, but not with, ya’ know?
But surprisingly, the film has been getting mostly positive reviews from critics. It has an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with most critics calling it a solid popcorn flick.
The film had its Thursday night preview last night and it made $1 million, which is not terrible. Tracking suggests it will make around $10 million, which would probably put it in third place this weekend behind Toy Story 4 and the latest Spider-Man film.
Crawl was made on a $13 million budget, so a $10 million opening wouldn’t be a terrible thing. And who knows, with the positive reviews, it’s possible it jumps up to $12 or $13 million, which would be really strong.
Meanwhile, Kumail Nanjiani and Dave Bautista’s action-comedy Stuber is not expected to perform well. It’s receiving mixed (at best) reviews from critics. It’s expected to make around $7 or $8 million this weekend.
