No surprise, ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ spent another weekend at the top of the box office. The film made another $45 million, which means it’s already crossed the $800 million mark worldwide.
But we all knew ‘Spider-Man’ was going to be huge. Let’s talk about a few surprises.
‘Crawl‘ opened this past weekend, and while the trailer looked hilariously terrible, the film actually got positive reviews from critics and managed to make $12 million during its opening weekend, which is not bad at all for a movie that was made on a $13 million budget.
It also made $4.8 million internationally, which means it’s already made a little over $16 million.
But the biggest surprise this past weekend was the success of The Farewell, the comedy-drama starring Awkwafina. The movie had a limited opening in four venues in NYC and LA, and it made over $350,000.
That means it made around $87,833 per location, which is good enough for the best theater average of the year, beating ‘Avengers: Endgame’ total of $76,601 per screen.
Lulu Wang directed the comedic drama, based on her own family. Awkwafina stars as the daughter of a family who returns to China to say goodbye to their matriarch, who doesn’t know she’s dying of terminal cancer. ‘The Farewell’ premiered to glowing reviews at Sundance and holds a rare 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Hopefully the wide release is just as successful![mashshare]
