Who will host the 2019 Oscars? It’s still a mystery. There is still a chance Kevin Hart will host, although it’s unlikely because it would probably be too much of a distraction. Even though he has apologized, the LGBTQ community isn’t buying it.
The Academy has been searching for other options, but no one really wants to do it because it’s not a great job to take. The pay sucks (at least for Hollywood), no one ends up liking your jokes, you can’t say anything even remotely offensive…IT’S STRESSFUL!
Chris Rock knows this, which is why he’s already declining the offer just in case the Academy gets crazy and offers him the job. During the New York Film Critics Circle Awards in Manhattan on Monday night, Rock presented Bo Burnham with the best first film award, but before he did, he had a little fun on stage.
“If it was five years ago, I could say something really offensive and funny right now, but I can’t do that anymore, so…heyyyy! Steve Martin is here. You should host the Oscars. You’re the best. Steve Martin should host the Oscars! Because I’m not doing it, goddammit! You’re not getting me.”
As some of you probably remember, Rock hosted the Oscars in 2017 and 2005, so he’s been there, hosted that.
