Chris Columbus Says ‘Gremlins’ And ‘Goonies’ Reboots Are Still Being Developed

There were probably some of you out there thinking, “Gee. I haven’t heard much about that possible Goonies reboot in months. Maybe Hollywood decided to leave it as a classic.” Nope. No. Nah. Hollywood is still about that remake, sequel, reboot life.

And it looks like the rumored Goonies reboot still might happen. Chris Columbus, the original writer behind both Gremlins and Goonies told ScreenCrush that both films are still being developed. He is “heavily developing” both reboots with Warner Bros. He admits that it’s been an incredibly slow process, but he doesn’t want fans to give up on the project.

“The stuff that I’m involved with — the Gremlins and Goonies reboots, for instance — they would do that without me. So, I’m staying involved just so I can be protective and actually protect what people love about those movies so it doesn’t go off track.”

And you will notice that he is calling this new Goonies film a “reboot,” which is interesting because many people believed it would be a sequel. There were rumors floating around claiming the original actors would be returning for the film; however, that doesn’t appear to be the case now. Even producer Frank Marshall confirmed it wasn’t going to be a sequel.

We’ll see what happens. From what I have heard, it looks like a Goonies reboot might happen before Gremlins.
