Tom Hanks is one of the nicest humans on the planet, so it makes sense for him to play one of the nicest people to ever live, Fred Rogers.
Hanks will star in a still untitled film about the life of the iconic children’s show host. Sony Pictures released the first photo showing Hanks dressed up as Rogers, and it’s crazy how similar he looks.
The movie is expected to hit theaters in October 2019, and it’ll reportedly follow the story of a reporter who develops an emotional bond with Rogers while profiling him for a magazine.
Of course, Rogers has been on everyone’s mind lately, thanks to the incredibly successful ‘Won’t You Be My Neighbor‘ documentary that was released this year. It’ll be interesting to see if releasing this film so soon after the doc has a negative impact. Some people might have Fred fatigue right now, although, how would that even be possible? You can never have too much of Fred.
By the way, the director of this film wants to make it clear that this is not a biopic…
“I disliked that when it got announced it was characterized as such. It’s really not. It’s a movie that’s largely focused on a reporter and [Mr. Rogers’] relationship to his life, and how [the reporter’s] whole world changes when coming in contact with Fred Rogers.”
You know, that actually sounds more interesting to me. Biopics are typically a drag.[mashshare]
