It’s September, which means we are basically in Oscar season. The potential award-winning films will be coming out left and right now. Those lame summer blockbusters are gone, and now we get to experience art in its prime.
‘Lady Bird‘ is Greta Gerwig’s already acclaimed directorial debut. It stars Saoirse Ronan as a “restless Catholic school student desperate to escape her provincial Northern California life.” She explains in the trailer that she wants to go where culture is, “like New York, or at least Connecticut or New Hampshire, where writers live in the woods.”
The coming-of-age film premiered at the Telluride Film Festival, and it received some very strong reviews. Variety’s Peter Debruge had this to say about the movie…
“The real surprise is just how honest and personal this film proves to be — again, par for the course with Gerwig, and yet, fairly rare among first-time directors, who haven’t had nearly so much practice simply being real.”
