Early Reviews For ‘Shazam!’ Are Out And Critics Are Saying It’s The Best DC Movie Yet

Last week we shared a video with you all featuring Zachary Levi getting annoyed with autograph seekers outside the airport. We mentioned that this could be just the beginning of the madness for him, considering ‘Shazam!” hasn’t even been released yet.

And now after reading the early reviews for this comic book film, it definitely looks like Levi will need someone else to do his grocery shopping for him because this movie is going to be huge.

‘Shazam!’ won’t be released inside theaters until next week, but some critics have already watched an early screening, and they are praising the movie. Most are calling it the best DC movie yet.

It currently sits at a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes with many critics going on and on about how delightful Levi is in the movie.

Owen Gleiberman from Variety writes…

Shazam!, on the other hand, is just a light, funny, grounded, engagingly unpretentious sleight-of-hand action comedy about a boy in a (super)man’s body. The movie, in other words, is Big in tights. And it’s Zachary Levi who makes that work, in much the same way that Tom Hanks did.

And Jim Vejvoda had this to say for IGN

Shazam! is a DC’s most joyful and sweet movie since the days of Christopher Reeve’s Superman, a funny yet earnest coming-of-age story about a boy who learns that, well, with great power comes great responsibility. So obviously, Shazam! doesn’t reinvent the superhero movie, but it’s an undeniably fun time that left me wanting more big-screen adventures with these charming characters.

Here’s the thing, no one should be surprised by this because Levi has basically played this role beautifully before. He starred in the lovable TV series ‘Chuck’ for five seasons, where he played a computer nerd who gets dragged into this secret spy world and eventually (spoiler alert) learns he has special powers, thanks to a government project.

Levi was born to play this, “WHOA WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ME?” role.

Michael B. Jordan Set To Star In ‘Methuselah’ Film For Warner Bros.

Michael B. Jordan’s stock continues to rise in Hollywood. He’s one of the hottest actors in the game. Everyone wants a little taste, and it was announced this week that Warner Bros. is getting the next taste.

Jordan will produce and star in a ‘Methuselah’ movie based on the Biblical story of a man who lived to be 969 years old.

This project is going to be huge. Before Jordan, names like Will Smith and Tom Cruise were attached…

Zach Dean wrote an early script after coming on to the project in 2014. The most recent draft was written by Tony Gilroy. Methuselah is referenced in the Book of Genesis as the son of Enoch, who lived to be 365 years old. The scripts have focused on Methuselah’s survival skills.

Gilroy is the screenwriter behind ‘The Bourne Identity‘ franchise, Michael Clayton and most recently Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Not much else is known about this project, but we will keep you posted as more details are released. For now, you can catch Jordan in the upcoming drama ‘Just Mercy‘ with Brie Larson and Jamie Foxx.

The Long Awaited ‘Deadwood’ Movie Now Has A Teaser Trailer

Fans of the HBO show ‘Deadwood‘ have been waiting a looong time for this. If you look up any “tv shows canceled too soon” list, you’ll see ‘Deadwood’ near the top. The American Western TV series had three seasons on HBO before being canceled.

Fans of the show were devastated and for years they have been teased with rumors of a Deadwood movie.

Well. finally, HBO has delivered. Fans will finally (or at least hopefully) get the ending they deserve with this upcoming two-hour movie.

The film will reportedly be set years later in the chronology of the show from when we last saw Al Swearengen (Ian Mcshane) and will see South Dakota officially joining the United States, along with the ramifications of that for the townsfolk.

Nearly all of the original cast members have returned for this film, which will premiere on HBO May 31, 2019.

Check out the teaser trailer below…

‘Us’ Has Record Breaking $70 Million Opening Weekend At Box Office

We love being right. Last week, we told you that the experts were predicting Jordan Peele’s latest horror film ‘Us‘ would take home around $45 or $50 million during its opening weekend, which would have been acceptable.

But we knew the projections were off. We told you ‘Us’ had a great chance of hitting the $70 million mark, and guess what? It did just that.

Peele is celebrating today after his second directorial effort was a huge success at the box office. The $70 million total means ‘Us’ now has the largest weekend for an original horror movie ever.

Overseas, ‘Us’ launched with $16.7 million from 47 international territories for a global start of $86.95 million. That number is all the more impressive considering Universal and Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions spent a modest $20 million to make “Us,” not including marking and distribution fees, meaning the movie quadrupled its production cost in less than a week.

Absolutely incredible. For those who don’t remember, Peele’s first movie ‘Get Out‘ made $33 million during its opening weekend.

We don’t know why these “experts” continue to underestimate black filmmakers like Jordan Peele, but whatever, they’ll catch on one day.

If you haven’t watched ‘Us’ yet, you should definitely check it out. I’m not going to sit here and pretend everything makes sense in the movie, but it was incredibly entertaining. I enjoyed it more than Get Out.

‘Shazam!” Star Zachary Levi Gets Angry At Autograph Hound Outside Airport (VIDEO)

Zachary Levi, who is probably best known for his role in the great tv show ‘Chuck‘, is about to become really popular. He’s starring in the upcoming superhero flick, Shazam!

And once you enter the land of superhero films, you can never go back. Not only will Levi’s net worth increase, the amount of attention he gets on the streets will increase as well after ‘Shazam!’ hits theaters in April.

Levi is already getting a little taste of the extreme fame. He arrived at LAX on Thursday night and was surrounded by people trying to get his autograph. Some of those people were legit fans, but others were just autograph hounds trying to make a quick buck.

As you can see in the video below, one bearded dude with glasses kept trying to shove a photo in Levi’s face, but the actor wasn’t having it.

Levi called him out and then yelled at him for pushing people around.

This is just the start, Levi.

Jordan Peele’s ‘Us’ Opens This Weekend And It Could Break Some Important Records

Do you have your tickets to see ‘Us‘ this weekend? I got mine. I’ll be watching it tonight, and I’m super excited. I wasn’t a huge fan of ‘Get Out‘ but it was unique, which is all I need to get excited about a filmmaker. If you’re making truly unique sh*t, then you have my support.

Jordan Peele’s latest horror flick ‘Us’ has been receiving great reviews from critics, and it looks like this might be a movie you need to watch more than once. I’ve been following some critics on Twitter and they all say they noticed a lot of ~hidden~ meanings during the second screening.

The film had its Thursday night release last night and it made an impressive $7.4 million, which is just barely behind the ‘Halloween‘ sequel at $7.7 million. Halloween ended up bringing home over $75 million during its opening weekend, and ‘Us’ could do the same damn thing.

The latest tracking reports claim the film will make between $40 and $50 million, but I think they’re going to be way off. I think this movie has a good chance of hitting the $70 million mark, which would be huge.

I know $70 or $80 million might not sound impressive anymore, ’cause of Marvel films bringing in over $100 million during their opening weekends, but for an original film (especially an original horror film) a $70 million opening is FANTASTIC.

According to my quick research, the opening weekend record for a purely original title stands at the $104 million mark, thanks to The Secret Life of Pets. That was an animated film, though. For a live-action original flick, it drops down to $89 million made by American Sniper.

We’ll see how close ‘Us’ can get to that total.

Watch The Trailer For Sundance Award Winner ‘The Last Black Man In San Francisco’

If you followed the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, then you probably remember hearing about a film titled The Last Black Man In San Francisco.

The movie received lots of love at the festival. It took home a Best Directing award as well as the U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Creative Collaboration. It’s quite impressive considering the director behind the film, Joe Talbot, had never directed a feature length project before.

The A24 film follows the story of Jimmie Fails — and it is based on his real-life story as well. Fails (who stars as a version of himself) and his friend Montgomery (Jonathan Majors) make their weekly pilgrimage across San Francisco to Jimmie’s dream home and imagine what life would be like if this neighborhood had never changed. When they realize the house’s current owners have moved out, Jimmie decides to recreate the home his family once had. As he struggles to reconnect with his family and reconstruct the community he longs for, Jimmie’s domestic aspirations blind him to reality.

I’m sold. How about you? Check out the trailer below. The Last Black Man In San Francisco will hit theaters June 14, 2019.

The New Trailer For ‘John Wick Chapter 3’ Has A Little Bit Of Everything

When the first ‘John Wick‘ film was announced back in 2013/2014, I don’t think anyone thought we’d be talking about a chapter three five years later in 2019, but here we are.

The action film franchise led by the lovable Keanu Reeves was a surprise hit back in 2014. It made close to $90 million and received outstanding reviews from critics. That was enough to get a sequel. John Wick: Chapter 2 was released in 2017 and made over $170 million at the box office.

It nearly doubled its total from the first movie, so of course they had to make a chapter three. ‘John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum‘ is set to hit theaters May 17, 2019, and the fine folks at Lionsgate gave us a little taste of the action today with the trailer you see below.

This trailer features lots of action, which is probably the most obvious statement of the year.

Check out the official synopsis and trailer below…

In this third installment of the adrenaline-fueled action franchise, super-assassin John Wick (Keanu Reeves) returns with a $14 million price tag on his head and an army of bounty-hunting killers on his trail. After killing a member of the shadowy international assassin’s guild, the High Table, John Wick is excommunicado, but the world’s most ruthless hit men and women await his every turn.

Cardi B, Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart And Julia Stiles Set To Star In Strip Club Drama ‘Hustlers’

No one knows the strip club world better than Cardi B, and now her knowledge of the industry has landed her a role in the upcoming ‘Hustlers‘ film.

The movie, which is being directed by Lorene Scafaria, will star Cardi, Lili Reinhart, Keke Palmer, Julia Stiles, Constance Wu and Jennifer Lopez.

Filming is set to begin in New York on March 22..

The project, originally set up at Annapurna as ‘Hustlers at Scores,’ is inspired by a New York Magazine article by Jessica Pressler. It’s set in New York City in the wake of the financial crisis and follows a crew of savvy former strip club employees who band together to turn the tables on their Wall Street clients.

That’s a pretty powerful group of women working on this movie. This could be huge.

No word on a release date, but it’ll likely be in 2020. It’s going to be interesting to see Cardi make her film debut, although, I’m assuming she’ll have no problem with it. She puts on an act all the time when she’s on talk shows, and as we mentioned above, she started off as a stripper, so the role won’t be a stretch.

We’ll keep you posted as more details are released.

Check Out The First Trailer For Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’

Ah, yes. Just a few days ago, the first poster for ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood‘ was released, and people were scratching their heads because it was a pretty terrible poster.

But as we all know, posters don’t really tell us sh*t about the film, and when it comes to a Quentin Tarantino flick, we don’t really care about the poster. It’s not like he’s the one making them. If we were to compare the importance of movie posters in film to the importance of Kardashians, Rob would be the poster.

So yeah, forget about the poster. The first trailer has arrived, and as expected, it’s pretty great. Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt look like they’re going to play brilliantly off each other.

Any trailer that features Brad Pitt fighting “Bruce Lee” is a win in my book.

Another bonus? This trailer is spoiler free. You don’t feel like you’ve watched the entire film after watching it. That might change with the second trailer, but for right now, we’ll enjoy this.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood will hit theaters July 26, 2019.
