Awkwafina And Ike Barinholtz Set To Star In Crime Comedy That Actually Sounds Pretty Promising

According to a new report this week, Awkwafina and Ike Barinholtz are set to star in a comedy film named ‘Crime After Crime,’ and the plot sounds promising.

Awkwafina will play a millennial podcast host, who is obsessed with covering true crimes. Things take an unusual turn for her when the convict she talks about on her podcast shows up at her house after escaping prison, hoping she’ll prove his innocence.

Dan Gurewitch and David Young are writing the screenplay, with Nick Stoller and Conor Welch producing under their Stoller Global Solutions banner alongside Awkwafina, Barinholtz and David Stassen.

2018 was a good year for both Ike and Awkwafina. Ike starred in the surprisingly great comedy, ‘Blockers’ last year and made his feature directorial debut with The Oath. Meanwhile, Awkwafina starred in Ocean’s 8 and Crazy Rich Asians.

Here’s to hoping this film is another hit for them both. I’m definitely intrigued!

‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay’ Reveals District 13 Logo, New Website and Character Posters!

catching-fire-part-1-hunger-games

Lionsgate revealed some good new fashioned viral marketing. They released a logo of District 13 and some long awaited character posters.

While Phillip Seymour Hoffman’s character is there along with Beetee I noticed that Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss was missing as well as Liam Hemsworth’s Gale character.  This leads me to believe that the folks at Lionsgate are not done yet.

Along with the pics, they have launched their new viral site: District13.co.in  If you are complaining about the .in instead of .com then you don’t get the clever reference to the President.  “COIN”!  Well played Ms. President, Well Played.

All that appears there right now is static, a small rendering of the District 13 logo, and a big QR code.  If you scan the code with your phone, it takes you to the mobile site where you can login via social media using facebook or twitter.  Then you do a little work to get the posters.

I’m sure there will be more to come.  We have a full 105 days to the movies November 21st release.

Two More Bad Ass Photos from the set of ‘Expendables 3’

Expendables 3 Logo

Forgive me for getting overly excited about this movie, but it’s hard not to. This is probably the most fun that you will ever have making a movie. This is everything that these guys ever dreamed about in a movie, a huge budget and absolutely no pressure to make a good film. Basically even if they fail they succeed. This is the type of movie that you go to, leave your brain at home and watch the action heroes do work.

[toggle title=”OFFICIAL MOVIE SYNOPSIS”]In The Expendables 3, Barney (Stallone), Christmas (Statham) and the rest of the team comes face-to-face with Conrad Stonebanks (Gibson), who years ago co-founded The Expendables with Barney. Stonebanks subsequently became a ruthless arms trader and someone who Barney was forced to kill… or so he thought. Stonebanks, who eluded death once before, now is making it his mission to end The Expendables — but Barney has other plans. Barney decides that he has to fight old blood with new blood, and brings in a new era of Expendables team members, recruiting individuals who are younger, faster and more tech-savvy. The latest mission becomes a clash of classic old-school style versus high-tech expertise in the Expendables’ most personal battle yet.[/toggle]

Before I sell this movie too short, it is directed by Patrick Hughes who did “Red Hill” and the screenplay was written by Rothenberger, Benedikt (of ‘Olympus Has Fallen’) and Stallone,
How bad ass are the photos below….and in case you missed the “Roll Call” trailer we got that below too.

Neil Kellerhouse lends his talent to 9 Posters for “Under the Skin”

Under-The-Skin-Scarlett-Johansson-1024x601
Kellerhouse is known for his ability to impose imagery on imagery.  He has taken many a movie poster and by removing, superimposing, shadowing or performing some other minimalist activity he has been able to make us feel some type of way.  That creativity has now been applied to movie posters for Jonathan Glazer’s newest film Under the Skin.  As you can see, Kellerhouse is an expert at applying the “less is more” theory and with what seems little work has made these movie stills into works of art.  These 9 posters come courtesy of Total Film .com.

The movie starring Scarlett Johansson will premier in the UK this Friday March 14, 2014.  It hits theaters in the US on April 4th. The Posters are below.

‘Need for Speed’ Character Posters Released- Unfortunately No Cars

NEED FOR SPEED

Breaking Bad might have been the fuel needed to get ‘Need for Speed’ the momentum it needs to be the next huge “Car” flick that we fall in love with. I have to say the more car chase scenes I see, the more intrigued I become. You have to suspend all sense of reality, what you know about gravity, and how fatal a car crash can really be to enjoy it. This was no different than the “Fast & Furious” series however they at least took their time got you hooked on the characters and then became unreal.

In the first movie it was more cult culture then over the top stunts and chases. Then as it grew in popularity and budget things got a lot more unrealistic. Remember the chase scene dragging a safe behind the car in “Fast 5” or how about the longest runway known to mankind in “Fast 6″.

Need for speed will attempt to bypass all formalities and just get right to it, however the film boasts that there is NO CGI.  Aaron Paul during an interview with Movie Fanatic even says that the stunts are practical.  I’m still trying to figure out what that means.

Here is the interview, the latest trailer (so you can see practical for yourself) and the newly released character posters.  The move hits theaters on March 14th, 2014.

“24: Live Another Day” – Teaser Trailer and 11 Promo Photos

o-24-LIVE-ANOTHER-DAY-facebook

I know we are a movie website but the buzz around 24 just can’t be denied.

The original series ran for 8 seasons and won a Golden Globe for Best Drama Series, and an Emmy for Outstanding Drama series.  At the series conclusion it was the longest run espionage TV show of its kind.  The movie version of the show was all set for production with a script, cast and everything when it was pulled for a variety of reasons including Kiefer Sutherland’s schedule and the budget.

Just when 24 was all but a memory, Fox decided to do 24: Live Another Day.  The limted run series will be 12 episodes that will zero in on the twelve most important hours of a normal 24 season.  There will be jumps around the clock as needed to keep the plot intact.

I was never a fan of the first series but sort of wish I was.  I will be tuned in for “Live Another Day”.  It might not be a movie but for fans of the series the excitement is just the same.

Here is the teaser trailer and promo photos that were released this week.  The series will have a two hour premiere on May 5th.

Marvel Releases 3 New ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Pics.

Guardians of the Galaxy

[dropcap]F[/dropcap]ans of the cult comic book will have the internet on fire.  In lieu of the first trailer, Marvel has released three movie photos from the James Gunn directed film.

This will be a change in direction for Marvel.  Unlike the super popular comics like The Avengers and Iron Man, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ is more underground with a following that takes pride in not being part of pop culture…which could be part of the problem.  Fans of this type tend to be the harshest critics which could prove risky when word of mouth and social medial will play a large part of this films promotion.  Marvel is hoping that the same things that attract the cult-like following will make this the next new pop-culture phenomenon.

The official trailer will premier during “Jimmy Kimmel Live” tomorrow night and then most likely hit the internet right after.  If Marvel can make this first movie a success, the storyline and characters lends itself easily to sequels which could mean more big paydays for everyone.

Official Movie Synopsis

An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits–Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon; Groot, a tree-like humanoid; the deadly and enigmatic Gamora; and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand–with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

First Promo Image for ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Released!

50 shadesJust when the “50 Shades” buzz has died down we receive the first official promo image.  These marketers are geniuses.  Although there is nothing necessarily spectacular about the image, spectacular is not needed.  The book feeds off of fantasy and imagination and the movie poster leads you right back into the book.  The poster shows the back of the main character, Christian Grey as he is overlooking the skyline of Seattle from what appears to be his office.

From the E.L. James novel we know that he is basically a powerful kinky billionaire and that photo is enough to get the mind going in a million different places as to where the movie will go and how things will actually look.  The same thing we did with the Harry Potter books but a little more erotic.

The placements of this image have also been very strategic.  There will be five super large billboards and smaller images will be shown in very specific high traffic metropolitan locations: several spots in New York (Grand St. & 6th Ave), Los Angeles (Wilshire Blvd. & Gayley), Chicago (LaSalle & Hubbard), San Francisco (Mission St. & 6th), and Grey’s hometown of Seattle (1st St. & Wall St.). [more…]

As you can see also on the poster, the movie will be released on Valentine’s day of 2015.  Originally slated for a mid-summer release the effort was pushed back – I’m just not sure if Valentine’s Day is a good thing or bad….but as a man in a relationship, my job is hard enough without trying to live up to the sexual escapades of a model looking billionaire.

First Character Photos of 50 Shades Movie Released

Fifty_Shades_Cover-FULLEntertainment Weekly released the first character photos of the eagerly anticipated ’50 Shades of Grey’ movie.  Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan not only grace the cover of the issue but there is also a full photo layout of the two inside.  Personally, I’m not impressed, but it appears fans of the book are satisfied…at least for now.

In the article written about the upcoming film, we get to hear Dakota’s take for the first time regarding the role.  The 24 year old told EW,

Obviously, I want to look good naked, I totally understand now why people exercise, because it kind of f–king feels awesome.”

Umm….ok.  I’m glad at age 24, she is finally learning what a workout is.

Dornan also weighs in on his role in the film.  He basically says that he is not at all worried about the storyline or the sex scenes,

“I’m a fairly worldly guy. I grew up in a very liberal place. I’m not saying we had a playroom, but I’m not shocked by [the sex in the book].”

Just another day at work for Dornan.  Without much of an acting career to date, this could be exactly what he needs to become a certified A-lister.  What do you think, Good Casting or not?
