Brad Pitt starring in a war movie? Not surprising. Brad Pitt starring in a war movie for Netflix? A little surprising. It was announced yesterday in a press release that Mr. Pitt will co-produce and star in the War Machine, a Netflix original film about the war in Afghanistan.
The movie is inspired by the best-selling book, The Operators: The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan, by the late Michael Hastings.
According to the press release, War Machine centers around “a four-star, ‘rock star’ general whose lethal reputation and impeccable track record vaults him to command the American war in Afghanistan. Determined to win the “impossible” war once and for all with a radical new approach.”
The film will be directed by David Michod, and as we mentioned above, Pitt will co-produce with Netflix. This will be the biggest investment Netflix has ever made in a feature film. Deadline reports it will be in the $30 million range. It will be available exclusively to Netflix subscribers around the world in 2016.
Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos believes Netflix subscribers will love the film…
“War Machine is a rip-roaring, behind-the-facade tale of modern war decision-makers, from the corridors of power to the distant regions of America’s ambitions. Brad and David are a perfect team to make this timely, compelling and entertaining film.”
