In just a little over a week, Disney will release their live-action (but not really) remake of The Lion King. The movie is expected to be a hit at the box office.
And you know what else is expected to be a hit? Beyonce’s just announced Lion King-inspired album. As some of you may know, Beyonce will voice Nala in the film. She joins an all-star cast that includes Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, John Oliver and James Earl Jones.
Beyonce dropped a new single titled ‘Spirit’ this week, which will be featured in her upcoming ‘The Lion King: The Gift‘ album.
The 23-time Grammy winner has curated a variety of Lion King-inspired songs written by African artists. The album, which comes from Parkwood Entertainment/Columbia Records, will also include a song written and performed by Beyonce titled ‘Spirit,’ which will also appear on the film’s soundtrack.
This album will be released on July 19, which is the same day the film will be released inside theaters.
In a statement released this week, Beyonce had this to say about the album…
This is sonic cinema. This is a new experience of storytelling. I wanted to do more than find a collection of songs that were inspired by the film. It is a mixture of genres and collaboration that isn’t one sound. It is influenced by everything from R&B, pop, hip hop and Afro Beat.
