We should have seen this coming. When reporters would ask Ben Affleck about the upcoming Batman film, you could tell he was already exhausted talking about it. They hadn’t even started filming it and fatigue had already set in.
And in order for Affleck to both star in and direct this movie, he would need to feel 100% confident. He would need to be at the top of his game, and he simply isn’t there at the moment.
According to Variety, Affleck has decided to step down as the director. He will still work on the script and star in the movie, but he will no longer be sitting in the director’s chair.
He released the following statement to the media:
“There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions. Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director.”
It’s big of him to admit he can’t do it all. Asking for help is never easy, although, we’re sure there are some people out there who wonder if this truly was Affleck’s decision.
The studio might have forced him to step down after his latest film failed at the box office.
