Ben Affleck’s upcoming film ‘The Way Back’ will be one of his most personal films to date.
In the movie, Affleck stars as Jack Cunningham, a former high school basketball star “who earned a full university scholarship but then shockingly walked away from the game, forfeiting his future.”
From there, he suffered a great loss, started drinking way too much and pushed his entire family away.
But when Jack is asked to coach the basketball team at his alma mater, which has fallen far since his glory days, he reluctantly accepts, surprising no one more than himself. As the boys start to come together as a team and win, Jack may have finally found a reason to confront the demons that have derailed him.
As most of you know, Affleck has struggled with an addiction to alcohol for several years now. He’s entered rehab multiple times, and just recently had a little slip in his sobriety during a wild night out in Los Angeles.
He told cameras following the incident, “It happens. It’s a slip, but I’m not going to let it derail me.”
Sources say this movie is extremely important to Affleck and is another step in his battle against his addiction.
The Way Back will hit theaters March 6, 2020.
