A Baby Driver Sequel? It Could Happen, According To Director Edgar Wright

I would like to start off this post by saying if you have not seen Baby Driver, you need to cancel all your plans tonight and go watch it. It’s the best movie I’ve seen so far this year, and it’s not even really close. And don’t you even dare think about finding some crappy version of it online for free. This movie was made for the theater experience.

Okay, so now that you know how great this movie is, let’s talk about a possible sequel. In a recent interview with Empire’s film podcast, Edgar Wright revealed that Sony has approached him about writing a sequel.

And he’s actually seriously considering it because he feels like there is more to the story…

“The studio have asked me to think about writing a sequel and it is one of the ones that I might do a sequel to because I think there’s somewhere more to go with it in terms of the characters. Most sequels you have to contrive something so they go back to square one, unless there’s somewhere deeper for them to go. I think with Baby Driver there’s more that you can do in that realm, and I sort of have an idea that if you did another [film] you would subvert his involvement in the crime in a different way so he’s not the apprentice anymore.”

As most of you know, we’re almost always against sequels, but we would be all for this one. In Wright we trust. He knows what he’s doing, so if he feels like a sequel is necessary, we’re going to believe him.

By the way, Baby Driver has made over $40 million worldwide at the box office against a budget of $34 million.
