Edgar Wright is one of the more important filmmakers of our time because he’s so unique. Most of his films have been small productions that had success with critics, but never really found great success at the box office.
But that changed this past year with Baby Driver. The film, which was written and directed by Wright, made over $220 million at the box office and received a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It was certainly one of the more entertaining films I’ve watched all year. It’s definitely in my top 10 of 2017, possibly even top 5.
And if you enjoyed the film as much as I did, you’ll be happy to hear that Wright is currently writing a sequel. He told Entertainment Weekly that a sequel is in the works…
“Those talks are already in the works. The deal is being hammered out as we speak. So, hopefully, I’m going to at least write a second one. I’ve definitely got lots of ideas. Whether it’s the next movie, I don’t know. I’m just working that out at the moment, actually. I have a couple of things that I’ve been developing, and also a couple of new ideas that I had, and all the nice things things that I’ve been offered since [the release of Baby Driver].”
Sounds like he’s a busy man right about now. I’m sure every studio is offering him projects right now. He’s hot, and it looks like he’s going to milk it. Hopefully the success of Baby Driver allows him to make some truly imaginative sh*t. You know, that one idea he’s had for years, but has never been able to make because it’s so crazy and no one will fund it.
