We told you last week that Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Infinity War‘ had a chance to make movie history by earning the biggest box office opening of all time, and we’re happy to report we were right.
Original projections had this film earning around $240 million, which would have been $8 million below ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’ but as the weekend progressed, it became clear Infinity War was going to bring in more than $240 million.
The superhero blockbuster made $258.2 million during its opening weekend, which was enough to beat Star Wars by a cool $10 million.
“The mega-Marvel superhero mashup also shattered records on the world stage. It launched to at $640.9 million globally — $100 million more than the previous champ, The Fate of the Furious ($541.9 million).”
Just so you understand how huge these numbers are, Warner Bros. ‘Justice League‘ film made $657 million worldwide during its entire run at the box office.
Infinity War made $640.9 million worldwide in its OPENING WEEKEND! It hasn’t even opened in China yet!
I mean, I’ll be the first one to admit I’m not a fan of comic-book movies. I find them to be incredibly boring and the market is too saturated now, but you have to be impressed with Marvel. They are absolutely killing it.
