Oh my god. We told you last week that ‘Avengers: Endgame‘ had a strong chance of earning the title for the highest grossing opening weekend here in the states. The previous record was $257.7 million set by Avengers: Infinity War.
Most projections had Endgame bringing in around $260 million. Well, it brought home $350 million in domestic ticket sales. It shattered the record by nearly $100 million.
And we haven’t even talked about the global numbers. The superhero flick made $1.2 billion globally. In just three days, Avengers: Endgame is the 18th highest grossing film of all time. IN JUST THREE DAYS! IN JUST THREE DAYS IT BEAT THE BOX OFFICE TOTALS OF CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, IRON MAN 3, TOY STORY 3, AND SO MUCH MORE!
No one expected this. Yes, we all expected huge numbers, but no one expected it to be this big. In fact, multiple experts believed it was almost impossible for it to break $300 million domestically in its opening weekend.
Now the next question is can it climb the charts and become the number one movie of all time? It’s certainly possible. Avatar currently holds the record with 2.7 billion. There is a small chance the numbers could drop significantly as the weeks move forward. Maybe this mad rush to be there during the opening weekend will result in a big drop.
But that’s not likely. What is likely? At least a top 5 finish. It’s likely this film crosses the $2 billion mark with ease and at least cracks the top five. AT LEAST.[mashshare]
