‘The Nun’ Has A Monster Opening Weekend, Gets Franchise Best $53.5 Million

We told you last week that ‘The Nun‘ was set up for a $45 million opening weekend. We also told you that if it reached that number, it’d be a record for ‘The Conjuring’ franchise.

Well, we’re happy to report that the horror flick took home an impressive $53.5 million this past weekend, which means it broke the opening weekend record for the franchise by a cool $12 million.

The $53.5 million total is the second-best September debut behind Warner Bros’. It. The Nun also opened overseas and made an additional $77.5 million, bringing its total to $131 million.

This is a huge win for the studio because this movie worked with a budget of just $22 million. This is why every studio in Hollywood wants a successful horror franchise. They are cheap to make and have the chance to make a lot of $$$ at the box office.

Jeff Goldstein, Warner Bros. head of domestic distribution, told Variety…

“We knew heading into the weekend that anticipation for ‘The Nun’ was extremely high across multiple demos, but these results surpassed all our expectations. We anticipate strong word of mouth to carry the film well into the fall.”

By the way, it’s doing all this with virtually zero support from critics. It has a 27% on Rotten Tomatoes.

‘The Nun’ Has Impressive Thursday Night Opening, Brings Home Franchise Best $5 Million

Warner Bros. must be happy right now with the success of their latest installment in ‘The Conjuring‘ franchise. The fifth installment, The Nun, opened Thursday night and made a franchise-best $5.4 million.

According to the experts, it could have a $45 million opening weekend. If it can reach that number, it’ll be a record for the franchise. Currently, the first film in the franchise holds the record with a $41.8 million opening.

In total the films in the franchise have generated over $1.1 billion globally, which is absolutely insane because the movies work with low budgets. Every studio dreams of having a successful, low budget horror franchise and Warner Bros. has a golden one.

This huge Thursday night preview comes after the film was slammed by critics. It has just a 30% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but for some reason, horror movies can thrive even with poor reviews. It’s the one genre that doesn’t really need support from critics.

If you’re a fan of Harmony Korine, then we have some good news for you. The indie filmmaker has returned to the land of features after six long years. His last feature-length film, Spring Breakers, came out to mixed reviews in 2012.

His latest film, The Beach Bum, has some star talent in it. Matthew McConaughey stars in the movie as a rebellious poet living in Miami who does things his own way. Zac Efron, Isla Fisher, Martin Lawrence and Snoop Dogg also star.

“The film has already made headlines for McConaughey’s stories of smoking real weed on set with Snoop Dogg, who would trade out the prop marijuana for the real thing without the actor’s knowledge.”

‘Zombieland 2’ Will Start Shooting In January In Atlanta, Get The Details Inside!

We told you earlier this year that ‘Zombieland 2‘ was happening. The original cast of Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg and Abigail Breslin all agreed to return.

Now we know more information about this upcoming sequel. According to multiple reports, they will begin filming in January in Atlanta. Director Ruben Fleischer will return.

Sources say the cast will be battling a new breed of zombies who are faster, bigger and stronger than the ones they originally faced.

“The group will face a new zombie threat as a new breed of zombie has developed. This new super-zombie type is faster, bigger, and stronger than the previous strain of zombies and harder to kill. These super-zombies have started grouping up into a horde going from city to city leaving a path of destruction behind them.”

Harrelson will be filming another movie (a WWII epic) until early December, so he’ll have about a month break for the holidays, and then it’ll be right back to work.

Zombieland 2 is expected to hit theaters October 11, 2019. We will keep you posted as more information is released.

Burt Reynolds Has Died At Age 82 After Heart Attack Inside His Home

We have some sad news to report today. Hollywood legend Burt Reynolds has died today at the age of 82. According to the reports, he suffered a heart attack inside his home and was transported to a local hospital where he later died. His family was by his side when he passed.

As some of you may know, Reynolds had heart problems for years. He had major heart surgery back in 2010.

Reynolds was loved by most everyone in Hollywood. He received an Oscar nomination for his portrayal as a porn director in the 1997 classic Boogie Nights.

But for the most part, he wasn’t worried about awards or praise from critics. In his 2015 memoir Enough About Me, he talked about how he missed out on a lot of serious roles because he was only interested in having a good time…

“I didn’t open myself to new writers or risky parts because I wasn’t interested in challenging myself as an actor. I was interested in having a good time. As a result, I missed a lot of opportunities to show I could play serious roles. By the time I finally woke up and tried to get it right, nobody would give me a chance.”

But even with a few regrets, Reynolds still had an incredible career in Hollywood. He will be missed by many. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I must say, this ‘Halloween‘ sequel is one of the movies I am most excited to see this fall. I know that goes against my hatred for sequels/remakes, but this movie looks so damn good.

One of the more excited things about this movie is that they’re ignoring all the sequels that followed the original Halloween film in 1978. This movie will act as a direct sequel, which gives them more to work with.

As you all know, Jamie Lee Curtis has returned as Laurie Strode, and she’s ready to end her nightmarish battle with Michael Myers once and for all.

Halloween will hit theaters on October 19, and it’s going to be a lot of fun. If it’s not, hit me up and tell me how disappointed you are. I’ll listen.

Judy Garland’s Ruby Slippers From ‘The Wizard of Oz’ Have Been Found After They Were Stolen 13 Years Ago

You might not know this, but back in 2005, someone broke into a museum in Minnesota and stole a pair of ruby slippers worn by Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz.

According to experts, the slippers are one of the most valued props in film history. They are worth between $1 and $2 million, depending on who you ask.

The FBI has been looking for the slippers for over 10 years, and last week, they announced that they finally found them. They received a “credible tip” last summer and spent the past year investigating the tip.

They scheduled a sting operation in Minneapolis in July and that’s when they found them…

“The slippers’ authenticity was verified by comparing them with another pair at the Smithsonian’s American history museum in Washington DC.”

No one has been arrested or charged with a crime, but officials say they have several suspects and the investigation is ongoing.

This might not seem like a huge deal to you, but for a museum losing its prized possession? It’s huge. Back when the slippers were first stolen, staff at the museum actually cried.

“The biggest thing that ever happened to our museum was getting the slippers stolen. We were literally crying.”

At least this story has a happy ending. If the slippers are returned to the museum, let’s hope they have a rotation of security guards sitting next to it 24/7.

Watch The Official Trailer For ‘The Favourite’ Starring Emma Stone And Olivia Colman

Fox Searchlight is trying to enter the Oscar race with the upcoming film, The Favourite. Most people believe it’ll be nominated for several awards, and when you look at the cast & crew, it’s easy to see why.

The royal drama, directed by the extremely talented Yorgos Lanthimos, stars Emma Stone, Olivia Colman and Rachel Weisz.

Indiewire gives us more details:

“‘The Favourite,’ written by Deborah Davis and Tony McNamara (it’s Lanthimos’ first directorial effort not from a script he wrote or co-wrote), centers around the wicked rivalry between Sarah Churchill (Weisz) and her cousin, Abigail Masham (Stone), to become the trusted adviser to Queen Anne (Colman). IndieWire’s Michael Nordine hailed the film as Lanthimos’ ‘crowning achievement’ in his A- review out of Venice.”

The movie is expected to hit theaters November 23, which is a prime awards season release date.

Alec Baldwin Will No Longer Be Playing Batman’s Father In Upcoming ‘Joker’ Movie

Well, damn. That happened fast. Earlier this week we told you that Alec Baldwin had joined the cast of the upcoming ‘Joker‘ film directed by Todd Phillips. He was reportedly going to play Bruce Wayne’s father, Thomas.

Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that the character would be “a cheesy and tanned businessman who is more in the mold of a 1980s Donald Trump,” and apparently Baldwin thought more about that description and decided he didn’t want to be typecast as the dude who plays Donald Trump.

Baldwin revealed on Wednesday that he is no longer doing the ‘Joker’ movie because of “scheduling issues,” but the story must be deeper than that because he just recently agreed to join. How did his schedule change so much?

He also said that he’s sure “there are 25 guys who can play that part,” which sounds like he’s throwing a little bit of shade at the movie, or at least that specific character.

The good news for Phillips and Warner Bros. is that they still have a pretty impressive cast working on this movie. You got Joaquin Phoenix, Zazie Beetz and Marc Maron. The film is expected to hit theaters October 4, 2019.

The Final Trailer For ‘The Predator’ Has Been Released And It’s Extremely Violent

In just a few short weeks, 20th Century Fox will release ‘The Predator‘ inside a theater near you. And to get you excited for this movie, they released one final trailer for the film.

And most people are saying they saved the best for last. The NSFW trailer is pretty bada** and should get you pumped.

The Predator will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next week, which means reviews should start coming out next week. The film stars Olivia Munn, Sterling K. Brown, Keegan-Michael Key, Jake Busey and Yvonne Strahovski.
