The first Ride Along movie hit theaters back in 2014 and it received some pretty terrible ratings from critics. But those negative reviews didn’t matter. The film made over $150 million at the box office with a budget of just $25 million.
So earlier this year, the cast & crew returned for Ride Along 2. It was once again destroyed by critics, but just like with the first movie, those poor reviews didn’t hurt the sequel. It made $124 million with a budget of $40 million, so the numbers went down a little with the sequel.
But still, we’d all love to turn $40 million into $120 million. That’s not a bad day at the box office right there.
Universal is hoping the franchise can drop a few coins in their account one more time. Screenwriters Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi are currently writing a script for Ride Along 3.
Director Tim Story told TheWrap he’s impatiently waiting for the completed script…
“We’re writing the script right now, we’re writing away and basically, I’m waiting to see some pages and we’re excited for the idea and what it can be and of course bringing Kevin [Hart] and Ice Cube back together because they are the greatest odd couple in the world. I’m impatiently waiting for a script to be given to me. We have some great ideas.”
So where can you find Kevin Hart and Ice Cube right now? Well, Universal is opening Hart’s comedy concert film, ‘Kevin Hart: What Now?‘, this weekend in over 2,500 locations, so you’ll be able to get all the Hart you can handle.
Cube can be seen in the comedy Fist Fight with Charlie Day. It opens February 17, 2017.
