Amazon was extremely busy at Sundance this year. As we reported last week, they purchased Mindy Kaling’s comedy film ‘Late Night‘ for $13 million and $14 million for both ‘The Report‘ and ‘Brittany Runs a Marathon.’

Now we are learning that the studio has also purchased Shia LaBeouf’s coming-of-age drama Honey Boy. The film, which is inspired by Shia’s life as a child with his father, was purchased for around $5 million by Amazon.

The movie got a standing ovation during its premiere at Sundance and is currently sitting at a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Honey Boy was written by Shia and directed by Alma Har’el.

Shia plays the role of his “father” in the movie and Noah Jupe plays the young actor on the rise. Lucas Hedges and Maika Monroe also star in the film.

And like we said, this movie is getting some great reviews. Simran Hans from Observer (UK) wrote this…

“The script, written by LaBeouf, is refreshingly direct, and at times, wrenchingly personal, anchored by vulnerable old-soul Jupe, who gives one of the most moving child performances I’ve seen in years.”

No word on a release date at the moment, but we will keep you posted.
