It’s the movie you never knew you needed in your life. An “R-rated Pixar-style movie” about food items at a grocery store trying to escape from certain death.
It sounds ridiculous, right? That’s because it is, but according to the critics who were lucky enough to see an early screening of Sausage Party at SXSW, it’s also hilarious and wildly entertaining. And while it’s described as your typical Seth Rogen film “offensive and filthy,” there appears to be something special about this animated project.
Sony decided to take advantage of the great reviews by releasing the first trailer for the film, and hopefully this is the only trailer they release. It’s the only trailer they need. I’m already going to buy a ticket. The first minute feels and looks like your typical Pixar movie, but then…well you’ll see.
Rogen co-wrote the script with his producer buddy Evan Goldberg and Kyle Hunter, and Ariel Shaffir. There are several familiar voices in the film: Kristen Wiig, Michael Cera, Salma Hayek, Edward Norton and Jonah Hill to name a few.
Check out the official synopsis and trailer below. Sausage Party hits theaters August 12, 2016.
“Sausage Party, the first R-rated CG animated movie, is about one sausage leading a group of supermarket products on a quest to discover the truth about their existence and what really happens when they become chosen to leave the grocery store.”
